I am a writer, editor, and teacher with twenty years of experience teaching at universities in the U.S. and Canada and an extensive record of publications in print and online.
I am a contributing editor for Poets & Writers Magazine and a staff writer for the literary website The Millions. My work has also appeared in The New York Times Magazine, The Globe and Mail, The National Post, The Economist, Salon, The Georgia Straight, The Baltimore Sun, and other publications. My fiction has appeared in Tin House, The Common, The Southampton Review, December, The Cortland Review, River City, The Orange Coast Review, The Oakland Review, and other journals. My story "Stories Are Like Water," which appeared in the fall/winter 2015 issue of December, was nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
I teach at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, where I live with my wife and son. Before moving to Canada, I taught at Fordham University, American University, University of Richmond, and San Francisco State University. I am a U.S. citizen and a Permanent Resident of Canada.
